Facing a complex problem is often best left at the rivers edge

For many leaving their Country of Origin is not on the top of their lists of things to do. They often do so in search of what in their native land has failed them, opportunity.

Often times their trek leads them towards the land of opportunity. Although tarnished by what has been occurring in the past decade or so it’s still a dream, the American Dream for many.

On a daily basis, hundreds if not thousands of individuals attempt to make their way into the country, Illegally, risking it all to find a piece of that dream they have spent their entire lives hearing about.

On Wednesday, December 30th, Del Rio Sector Special Operation Detachment operators and law enforcement officials apprehended 21 individuals attempting to make that fateful trek.

For now, those individuals will be processed and eventually returned back, only to attempt again and again to gain access to a Country that was made on the premise that we’re supposed to be a melting pot.

The topic of immigration is one that has many components. Finding a balance is the tricky part or maybe one that figureheads don’t feel needs to be fixed since it’s a big lucrative business.

President Trump signals Vetoing Stimulus to increase direct payment, Congressional Democrats agree, GOP silent.

President Trump posted a video on Twitter, calling the COVID Stimulus deal that was passed earlier this week after months of gridlock, “a disgrace” and says he’s asking Congress to amend the amount of stimulus money Americans receive from $600 to $2,000, or $4,000 for a couple, as well as modify the language of the bill to remove superfluous language.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated on Twitter that, “We spent months trying to secure $2000 checks but Republicans blocked it.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also Tweeted, “Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks. At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!”

The House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have not made statements or stated support.

If President Trump vetoes the bill Congress will need to return to Washington DC from their recess to get this done before Christmas break and in order to send first round of checks the week of December 27.

Congress passes nearly 1 Trillion dollar COVID Stimulus bill

Nine months after passing the CARES Act, The US House and Senate passed a second stimulus package aimed at helping Americans with the fallout from the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. The House had passed several stimulus bills over the Spring and Summer months but were never taken up by the Senate. It was not until mid-December when talk of a stimulus began to swirl and now has passed.

The second stimulus bill contains:
• $600 for each adult. This will be dispersed to individuals earning up to $75,000 and married couples earning up to $150,000. The overall amount dispersed reduces for all incomes over the thresholds.
• $600 for each dependent child (18 and under) in the household.
• “Mixed–Status” Households will not be denied the stimulus check as they were in the first round. Where wording stipulated that both persons had to be American Citizens, had a Social Security and if they did not meet the stipulations all members of that household and filers would be denied their stimulus check.
• $300 extra in unemployment aid, as well as extended PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) and PEUC (Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits until March 14, 2021.
• PPP loan extension and expansion to include and expand funding for local newspapers, local TV stations, and radio broadcasters.
• $20 Million in EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loans) for small businesses in low-income communities

The stimulus bill was fraught with contention since early last week as each side fought for special interests and particular bullet points. On December 21, 2020, at approximately 7:45pm the House passed the bill and at 10:40pm the Senate passed its bill. The final bill goes to President Trump to sign or veto as he deems.
